Congratulations

Topps, the folks who put out baseball cards, selects All-Star teams each year for the minor leagues. Kanekoa Texeira, of Kula, Hawaii, was selected to the Class A All-Star Team. Texeira converted 20 of 23 save opportunities for the Winston-Salem Warthogs before being promoted to Double-A in July. Texeira went 3-1 with a 0.93 ERA and fanned 36 in 38 2/3 innings while with the Warthogs. The Chicago White Sox picked him in the 22nd round in 2006 out of Saddleback (Calif.) Junior College.

Hawaiians must not do well in domes

The two current major league teams to never have a native Hawaiian play for them on the major league level are the Tampa Rays and the Minnesota Twins.

Welcome!!!

Welcome to Hawaii-baseball.com! Here you'll find information on major league baseball players who were born in the 50th state of the Union. Through 2008, there have been 35 native Hawaiians who have reached the major leagues. I'll use the blog to post interesting tidbits that don't fit anywhere else on the site, talk about Hawaiians who may not have reached the majors yet, or whatever else I deem appropriate. I hope you enjoy!
